League Information

1st and 2nd Grade Leagues

In first and second grade, girls and boys play together. Emphasis is on fun and skills development.

3rd-12th Grade Leagues

3rd-12th Grade leagues (Boys and Girls play in their own leagues)

Boys

  • 3rd/4th League (9-foot high basket) plays with other 3rd and 4th Graders.
    • 3rd Graders will play in this league
    • 4th Graders who are new to basketball or that have difficulty with shooting at a 10 foot high hoop.
    • Emphasis is on fun and improving basketball fundamentals
    • 3-on-3 games to improve ball handling skills and movement
    • There will be practices, games, and a year-end tournament
  • 4th/5th League (10-foot high basket) plays with other 4th/5th graders
    • 5th Graders will play in this league
    • 4th Graders who have played basketball and can shoot on a 10 foot high hoop without difficulty.
    • NOTE: Depending on the evaluation scores and the number of players in each league, 4th graders may be assigned to either the 3rd/4th league or the 4th/5th league.
    • Emphasis is on fun and improving basketball fundamentals
    • There will be practices, games, and a year-end tournament
  • 6th Grade League
    • 6th Grade Boys play in their own grade level in the Junior Northwest Suburban Conference League. This league offers the players an opportunity to play more-competitive basketball against teams from other cities such as Brooklyn Park, Osseo-Maple Grove, and Fridley.

Girls

  • 3rd/4th League (9-foot high basket) plays with other 3rd and 4th Graders.
    • All 3rd and 4th Graders will play in this league

Boys & Girls 7th-12th Grade Leagues

  • 7th/8th Grade Leagues
    • 7th and 8th Grade Boys & Girls play in their own grade level in the Junior Northwest Suburban Conference League
    • This league offers the players an opportunity to play more-competitive basketball against teams from other cities such as Brooklyn Park, Osseo-Maple Grove, and Fridley.
  • 9th/10th and 11th/12th Grade Leagues
    • Boys & Girls play in either the 9th/10th or 11th/12th Grade Leagues in the Senior Northwest Suburban Conference League
    • This league offers the players an opportunity to play more-competitive basketball against teams from other cities such as Brooklyn Park, Osseo-Maple Grove, and Fridley.

What are the costs?

  • 1st-2nd Grade $50.00
  • 3rd-5th Grades $110.00 + Uniform Deposit
  • 6th Grade Girls (CDAA "house" league) $110.00 + Uniform Deposit
  • 6th Grade Boys (NWSL) $125.00 + Uniform Deposit
  • 7th-8th Grade (NWSL) $125.00 + Uniform Deposit
  • 9th-12th Grade (NWSL) $110.00 + Uniform Deposit
    • 9th-12th Grades have fewer practices and games so the price is lower
  • Deposit Checks will be returned to you when your uniform is turned in

What are Evaluations and why should we go?

  • All players in grades 3-8 must attend evaluations.
  • 9th-12th Grades dates are yet to be determined at this time, but will take place in December
  • Player evaluation scores are used to create teams that are more balanced and leagues that are more competitive

When does the season begin?

  • Grades 1-2
    • No evaluations for 1st and 2nd grades
    • Practices begin in early to mid November
    • All practices and games will be on Saturdays
    • Season ends in late February
  • Grades 3-8
    • Evaluations will be done in October
    • Practices begin in early to mid November
    • CDAA in house tournaments in early March
    • MYAS Rec-State Tournaments March 20-21
  • Grades 9-12
    • Evaluations will be done in late November/early December
    • Practices begin in early to mid November
    • CDAA in house tournaments in early March
    • MYAS Rec-State Tournaments March 20-21

Can I play up in an older age group?

  • Players are encouraged to play in their own grade with their peers and classmates
  • Under certain occasions we allow a player to play up one league (NEVER down)
  • Parents/Guardians who wish their child to be evaluated in an older age group should make their request known to the the basketball directors ASAP. (Basketball@CDAASports.org)
    • Players wishing to play up MUST score in the top 25% of the grade level they evaluate in AND space must be available in that league to accommodate the player
  • Exceptions to these stipulations are at the discretion of the Basketball Director due to league/team balancing

Can I play CDAA Basketball if I don't make the Traveling team?

  • Players trying out for traveling basketball are strongly encouraged to register for CDAA Basketball to be assured of a spot in the CDAA program in the event the player does not make it onto a traveling basketball team.
    • Note: if the player makes the traveling team and requests a refund, the player will be charged $10 to process the refund.
  • If the player DOES NOT register for CDAA Basketball, tries out for traveling, and does not make the traveling team the player will only be accepted in the CDAA program if there is an open roster spot
